St Osmunds Catholic Church, Barnes

Welcome to our Parish

Welcome to St Osmund’s Parish, Barnes in South West London.
I hope this site will provide you with the information you require.

In 1956, Fr Ryan opened the Church and lit the Sanctuary lamp, the red lamp to the right of the Altar which burns day and night. Two years later, on 26 June 1958 the Church was solemnly consecrated. This was a singular achievement as World War II had finished just 12 years earlier; the economic and social boom of the 1960s was yet to come and Canon Law required that a Church had to be debt free before it could be dedicated. Moreover our Church says to those daily passing by on foot, by car or bus that the Catholic Community has a home in Barnes, a place of worship built to continue the mission of Jesus Christ in our times. Moreover, St Osmund’s is a symbol of God’s living Church, of which each of us is a living stone and Christ Jesus is the cornerstone. More than just a Church building, we are a parish community who believes that we ourselves are God’s building materials and He desires to make this whole world his parish.
