St Osmund’s Green Team

The Green Team’s objectives are inspired by Pope Francis’s urgent call to care for God’s creation and our common home, as expressed in his encyclical letter to us all – Laudato ‘Si –calling on ‘every person living on this planet’ to care for our shared Earth.

The St Osmund’s Green Team was formed by a group of parishioners who are encouraging care for creation in all aspects of parish life through prayer and to make practical responses to deal with climate change. Our priorities are to:

  • reduce the carbon footprint and plastic usage within our church, hall and presbytery.
  • connect with our parish School St Osmund’s and to support their learning about the importance of the natural world.
  • encourage recycling within the community and travelling to church by bus or bike.
  • join other interfaith, local, national and international initiatives to share the common goals of protecting our planet while caring for those people most affected.
  • inspire the next generation about our responsibility to the Earth and to each other.
  • believe that even a small change can make a difference.

Our Green Team is constantly looking to come up with new ways in which our church can better care for the planet. Please get in touch with us via the parish office if you would like to find out more, share initiatives or get involved. 020 8748 5833.

At the back of the church you will find there are bins for Pens (ball points, felt tips, markers, highlighters), Printer-ink Cartridges, Plastic Milk-Bottle Tops and Crisp Packets (must be empty and flat). All will be recycled for charity. Please donate.

Prayer for our Earth from Pope Francis

All powerful God, you are present in the universe and in the smallest of your creatures.
You embrace with your tenderness all that exists.
Pour out upon us the power of your love, that we may protect life and beauty.
Fill us with your peace, that we may live as brothers and sisters, harming no one.
O God of the poor, help us to rescue the abandoned
and forgotten of this earth, so precious in your eyes.
Bring healing to our lives, that we may protect the world and not prey on it, that we may sow beauty, not pollution and destruction.
Touch the hearts of those who look only for gain at the expense of the poor and the earth.
Teach us to discover the worth of each thing, to be filled with awe and contemplation, to recognize that we are profoundly united
with every creature as we journey towards your infinite light.
We thank you for being with us each day.
Encourage us, we pray, in our struggle, for justice, love and peace
